With the way the internet is, films usually fail before release due to bad buzz. With Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald set to come out next month, Ezra Miller has some choice words for anyone looking to trash the movie.
Miller tells Total Film (via EW):
"Why don't you wait until you see the film before you start talking s— on Twitter… Or wait to make up your own mind about something for once in your life. Do your own research. Make up your own mind. Follow your heart, and really, really investigate situations before you identify yourself and pick a side, and start throwing things at the opposition. Because that's what's totally screwing everything up right now. And it polarizes us. We're all human, and there's a lot of things we can agree on."
It's no mystery that critic reviews have an impact on the way a movie performs in the box office; just take a look at Solo: A Star Wars Story. The film was passed on by so many fans upon release because of underwhelming critic reviews (among other things), but by the time the film hit home video, everyone was expressing their regret online for missing out on the movie when it hit theaters.
Of course, there are also the total wild cards. Critics absolutely slammed Venom before it came out, but the film managed to overperform in the box office.
Personally, I side with Miller on watching films and finding out for yourself if they're worth your time. Critics can be helpful, but I think a lot of them tend to jump the bandwagon when it comes to forming opinions on films. Best find out things for yourself.
Catch Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald in theaters Nov. 16.
