Fans Who Buy Cyberpunk 2077 on Xbox One Will Get it on Xbox Series X for Free

Cyberpunk 2077 will probably be one of the last high-profile games coming out for this generation, with the PS5 and Xbox Series X looming over everything this year. While both consoles will likely have backward-compatibility with PS4 and Xbox One, maybe more, the developers at CD Projekt Red have gone one step further for Xbox fans; if you buy an Xbox One copy of Cyberpunk 2077, you also get it on Xbox Series X with no extra cost.

The mad lads at CD Projekt Red confirmed the news themselves after Microsoft stated that their next-gen console would allow players to play every game from the Xbox library, which is pretty crazy. CD Projekt Red described it as a free Xbox Series X upgrade so we can only assume that it will look better and/or play smoother on Microsoft's new console.

Honestly, it's a very bold statement from Microsoft since the previous generation had a ton of remasters that players were forced to re-purchase with minimal upgrades. Sure, Bioshock: Infinite looks better in the Bioshock Collection for modern consoles and even has all the DLC but if you purchased all of this on PS3 or Xbox 360, you get nothing new aside from some slight graphical upgrades.

We're hoping that Sony and Nintendo follow suit, especially since there are rumors that the PS5 will also play PS1, PS2, and PS3 games, in addition to PS4 backward-compatibility. Let's hope this is the case since fans will be fine playing their PS4 copy of Cyberpunk 2077 on a PS5 instead of re-purchasing a "remastered" edition.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be coming out on September 17 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC, along with Google Stadia.
