The last couple of days have undoubtedly been bittersweet for Henry Cavill. Merely days after confirming that he is finally returning to the DC Universe as Superman, the 39-year-old British star shockingly announced over the weekend that he's departing from The Witcher. Season 4 will no longer see Cavill return as Geralt of Rivia and the role has been given to Hunger Games actor Liam Hemsworth.

As it stands, the real reason behind Cavill's exit remains a huge mystery although some reports are saying that it had a lot to do with the actor's disagreements with the show's writers. It turns out that Cavill has been pushing for a more faithful adaptation of The Witcher books but the show's creative minds want to go a different route.

Naturally, the reception to Cavill's bombshell announcement has been generally negative, with a lot of folks not willing to accept Hemsworth as the new Geralt. Taking to Twitter, furious fans are now threatening to boycott the show if Cavill doesn't return for the fourth season. Check out some of the heated reactions below:

As it stands, Netflix's decision is already set in stone and no amount of backlash would be able to reverse things. I mean, I'd be willing to give Liam a chance but there's no denying that he's being put in an unenviable position of filling Henry's shoes. If anything, the show's creatives should have just hit the reset button or canceled the show altogether. But hey, we'll see what they have up their sleeves.

The Witcher Season 3 is expected to drop sometime in 2023.
