It's been a rollercoaster of a week for Henry Cavill who made two bombshell announcements over the last seven days. Following his confirmation that he is in fact returning to the DC Universe as Superman, the British star shockingly revealed that he's leaving Netflix's The Witcher franchise despite Season 4 being in the works.

Liam Hemsworth has been announced as Cavill's successor for the Geralt of Rivia role and by the looks of things, the next season will pick up where Season 3 left off instead of it being an actual reboot.

The news sent shockwaves across the geek community but the true reason behind Cavill's shocking departure remains a huge mystery. Naturally, fans are speculating that his decision had something to do with his renewed role in the DCU while others think that he's joining the Games of Thrones spinoff series House of the Dragon.

Well, it turns out that none of those are linked to his The Witcher exit. Forbes reports that Cavill has long been having irreconcilable issues with the show's writers who have continuously ignored the source material despite Cavill pushing for a more book-accurate presentation of the story.

As it stands, everyone involved in the show has yet to address the root cause of Cavill's exit but I strongly believe it had something to do with behind-the-scenes drama more than anything. I mean, just because he's returning as Superman doesn't exactly mean that he could no longer fulfill his duties as The Witcher.

The Witcher Season 3 is expected to drop sometime in 2023.
