As promised, Disney has dropped the first trailer for Raya and the Last Dragon, and though the trailer looks fantastic, fans can't help but compare the movie to Nickelodeon's Avatar and Disney's other big property, Star Wars.

As for Star Wars, we have these comments:
Let's start with the Avatar comparisons. For one, young Raya looks a lot like Korra from The Legend of Korra (even Katara from ATLA) down to the hair and blue clothes. The man she also faces off with in the beginning feels a lot like the Blue Spirit from The Last Airbender. What's more, the world is full of hybrid animals, much like Avatar is.
As for Star Wars, some are saying that Raya starts to look like Rey in some angles, and she also fights with (albeit smaller) sticks. When Raya also rides Tuk Tuk, it looks an awful lot like BB-8.
If anything, the world still looks fantastic, and I can't wait to see the Southeast Asian influence that the film will draw from. After the success of Moana, it's going to be interesting to see how Raya will set itself apart. I'm really excited to see how Kelly Marie Tran brings the role to life, and after what Star Wars did to her Rose character, she deserves to be in the spotlight.
Raya and the Last Dragon is set to hit theaters on March 12, 2021.
