Raya and the Last Dragon Starring Kelly Marie Tran Gets New Poster; Trailer Drops Tomorrow

Though some may still want her to come back to Star Wars down the line, Kelly Marie Tran has teamed up with Disney for the animated movie, Raya and the Last Dragon. The trailer for the film is apparently dropping tomorrow, and Disney has released a new poster to hype up the film.

Check it out:

With Moana delving into Polynesian culture as its main influence, Raya is going to be drawing from Southeast Asian legends. When Tran nabbed the role back in August, she had this to say about being the next Disney Princess:

"She is someone who is technically a princess but I think that what's really cool about this project, about this character, specifically is that everyone's trying to flip the narrative on what it means to be a princess… Raya is totally a warrior. When she was a kid, she was excited to get her sword. And she grows up to be a really badass, gritty warrior and can really take care of herself."

Besides Tran, the movie has also cast Awkwafina in the role of Sisu who is a dragon in human form. Sisu will be asking Raya for help in getting back her power, and along for the ride is animal sidekick Tuk Tuk who is described as a bear crossed with an ‘insect version of an armadillo.'

Though Tran may have received the full force of the toxic Star Wars fanbase with The Last Jedi, Disney is sure making up with it by giving her the role of Raya. No doubt, I think Tran has a very warm and charming personality, and I can't wait to see more of her in the future.

Raya and the Last Dragon is set to hit theaters on March 12, 2021. Watch out for the trailer when it comes out on Good Morning America tomorrow.
