Family Guy will always be stuck in that odd middle of entertainment, often releasing episodes that are either filled with dumb jokes and dumber plots or amazing pieces of animation with a lot of imagination. They often do this with some tasteless jokes though, whether they be about sex, drugs, racism, rape, the LGBT, alt-right followers, and most recently, Donald Trump.
However, an interview with TV Line revealed that the series will no longer be crossing a specific line, with executive producers Alec Sulkin and Rich Appel claiming that the series will drop all gay jokes in the future. This is rather surprising since the animated show has never been one to back down from dark and insensitive jokes but that's all changing.
Sulkin had this to say about changing with the times:
Appel also had this to say:
This is an interesting change and it will be fun to see how Family Guy copes now that one of it's easiest crutches is gone. It's nice to see a big show like this try to inspire some change so here is hoping more do the same.
Certain fans will say that this is a long time coming since the show has done some really dumb gay jokes. Stewie has often been the butt of these jokes, wanting to be with his dog Brian, though he did fall in love with a number of women. There was even an entire episode that had Peter Griffin turn gay after being injected with something that makes him this way. Granted, the show did have some good gay jokes too but we're in a new generation.
Family Guy can be viewed on Fox.
