Family Guy Pays Tribute to Carrie Fisher in Her Character’s Eulogy

It's been a year but the passing of Carrie Fisher has left us feeling pretty empty, especially since she will only have a brief scene in Star Wars: Episode IX when it was clear that they had more plans for her as General Leia Organa. Of course, Star Wars isn't the only thing Fisher is known for as the actress also had a recurring role in Seth MacFarlane's Family Guy where she played Peter's boss in a number of episodes.

After waiting a while, the series has finally laid the character Fisher was playing, Angela, to rest. Fans can watch the eulogy Peter Griffin (voiced by MacFarlane) gives to her, explaining how she died and what she meant to him. Clearly, the eulogy is more for Fisher than the character, who was often critical of Peter but was never too mean to him, if that means anything.

The speech is actually pretty emotional if a little too jokey at the start but anyone who has been in a funeral knows that it can be that way. Not all of the jokes land of course and the last one feels like it was copied from Bojack Horseman but the speech itself is worth a listen, especially to those fans that grew up with her work.

However fans feel about Family Guy, this little eulogy is a touching tribute to Fisher and shows that the creators can handle emotion if they want to. That isn't the case with all episodes of the series - Remember when Meg accepted the fact that she would be abused by her family all the time so that they'll stay together? - but this was a solid hole in one for them.

Star Wars: Episode IX, Fisher's last appearance as Leia, comes out on December 20, 2019.
