Fallout 76 Isn’t A Sign That Bethesda’s Turning Away From Single-Player Games

Fallout 76 might be a survival multi-player game set in the same post-apocalyptic world as the Fallout franchise, but that doesn't really mean that Bethesda's going to stop creating single player games.

Sure the videogame developer might have been focusing on Fallout76 while keeping coy about details on the new Elder Scrolls game and on Starfield, but Bethesda Game Studios President Todd Howard says that single player gamers have nothing to worry about.

When asked about IGN whether gamers should take Fallout 76 as a sign of Bethesda's shift from single-player games, Howard says that the game doesn't necessarily mark the future of the company. Sure the company might be starting to dip into the multiplayer market, but they'll never forget what they've started.

"It doesn't mark the future. Corporately we've done a mix; people forget sometimes. Elder Scrolls Online is one of the biggest online games in the world, we have Fallout Shelter which we keep updating and Elder Scrolls: Legends."

According to Bethesda's head, the company has always been about general gaming, not just single-player, or multi-player games.

"Anyone who has ever said 'this is the future and this part of gaming is dead' has been proven wrong every single time. We like to try it all. For a long time, we wanted to try a multiplayer game and we had this idea. We shouldn't be afraid. We should try it."

While Bethesda has been known for its great single-player titles, the company is allowed to try to experiment with all kinds of games. There's nothing really wrong with Bethesda experimenting.

Fallout 76 releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on November 14, 2018.
