It has been over a decade since the manga’s end, and to celebrate its upcoming anniversary, the manga’s creators are coming back for a special project. Recently, it was revealed that the Eyeshield 21 manga is getting a new chapter to celebrate its 21st anniversary.

The upcoming chapter was revealed in the latest Weekly Shonen Jump issue. There, it was confirmed that the new chapter will be over 50 pages long and will feature a color page.

This doesn’t exactly mean readers can look forward to a revival of the series, but this is the second time that fans were treated to an Eyeshield 21-related project this year.

Eyeshield 21 is a sports manga that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in the 2000s. Thanks to the manga’s popularity, the series got an anime adaptation by studio Gallop, which got 145 episodes.

Since the anime and the manga ended in 2008 and 2009, respectively, Eyeshield 21 did not get any major projects.

A few months ago though, fans were treated to a special anime by Yusuke Murata's Village Studio. It is only a short anime made to celebrate the series, but it got lots of attention from fans.

The original manga was illustrated by Murata, who remains to be one of the most well-known manga artists currently. After all, Murata is the illustrator of Shueisha’s One-Punch Man manga.

Eyeshield 21’s writer is also just as popular. This manga was written by Riichiro Inagaki, the writer of Dr. Stone and the ongoing Trillion Game manga.

Eyeshield 21 Manga Is Getting a New Chapter in January

In celebration of the manga’s 21st anniversary (perfectly fitting its title), the Eyeshield 21 manga will come back with a new chapter.

This was revealed in Shonen Jump’s Issue 4/5 for 2024. There, it wasn’t explicitly mentioned that Inagaki and Murata would return. Chances are that they will, given that it is their series.

What is confirmed is that the new chapter will be 55 pages long and will have a special color page.

In the meantime, fans who want to relive the series can watch Gallop’s anime adaptation right now on Crunchyroll.
