EXO's Baekhyun, ASTRO's MJ, MONSTA X's Shownu and MORE To Complete Their Military Service This Year

EXO’s Baekyun, Monsta X’s Shownu and more K-pop idols will complete their military service this year.

South Korea requires all able-bodied men ages 18 to 35 to perform compulsory military service. Athletes, musicians and other artists who bring honor to the country can be exempted from serving in the military. Those who are enlisted are required to serve for 18 to 22 months.

This year, several K-pop idols are expected to wrap up their duties.

K-pop Idols Who Will Be Discharged from the Military in 2023

K-pop fans will continuously welcome back their favorite idols from the military service starting this month.

Victon’s Han Seung Woo will be the first to discharge. After he was enlisted on July 28, 2021, the idol would officially complete his service on Jan. 27, according to The Korea Herald.

One of the highly-anticipated discharges will be made in February by EXO’s Baekhyun. The Sugar singer will be discharged on Feb. 5, just in time before the group’s comeback after spring.

His labelmate, Taemin of SHINee, will complete his service on April 4. The Lucifer hitmaker started his service in the military band before he was transferred to a reservist duty amid his mental health issues.

According to SM Entertainment, the idol had been suffering from depression and anxiety long before his enlistment.

In March and November, DAY6’s Young K and Wonpil are slated to be discharged, respectively, after completing their duties.

MONSTA X’s leader and member Shownu will finish his service on April 21.

The other idols who will be discharged this year include ONF members, SF9’s Inseong, Block B’s P.O and ASTRO’s MJ.

Idols Who Will Be Enlisted in 2023

Although the official list is yet to be confirmed, some A-list idols are also expected to start their military service before this year ends.

As of press time, fans are preparing to temporarily bid their goodbyes to iKON’s Bobby and Song; NCT’s Taeyong; SEVENTEEN’s S.Coups and Jeonghan; PENTAGON’s Shinwon; former NU’EST member Hwang Minhyun; SF9’s Dawon; VIXX’s Hyuk; and VICTON’s Seungsik.
