There's no denying that the Star Wars franchise has experienced quite the resurgence over the last three years, thanks to Lucasfilm's expansion of the franchise through Disney+. However, it seemed to have come with a huge price to pay for the production company as its Star Wars movie slate has remained stagnant, despite Kathleen Kennedy announcing a slew of upcoming big-screen offerings during Disney Investor Day 2020.

Appearing on John Rocha’s The Hot Mic show (via Star Wars News Net), insider Jeff Sneider claims that despite the recent film drought the franchise is experiencing, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has already laid out a five-year plan for Star Wars films with the next big screen project offering set to premiere in 2025.

Sneider also said that there was a conscious decision on Lucasfilm's part to pivot towards streaming for a while, a move that proved to be a great call but the company has long figured out its film slate for Star Wars.

As it stands, Lucasfilm has yet to confirm what film project fans can expect in 2025. However, speculation is running high as of late that it will be the post-sequel trilogy film helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy with Damon Lindelof serving as co-writer.

With Disney welcoming former CEO Bob Iger back to the fold to replace Bob Chapek, there has been concern within the fandom regarding the future of Star Wars. It'll be interesting to see if the content will retain its quality but given how Iger was in position when the sequel trilogy was released, fans can only hope that Disney won't commit the same mistakes it did pre-MandoVerse.

Meanwhile, all your Star Wars favorites — from film to series are available to stream exclusively on Disney+.
