Ewan McGregor Reveals Real Score About His Future as Obi-Wan

Star Wars fans are in a position to celebrate following the announcement of upcoming Star Wars movies and some exciting details about the Disney+ slate of the franchise at the Star Wars Celebration last Friday. However, amidst the delightful news, fans are still looking for the missing updates regarding some Star Wars shows, one of which is season 2 of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Given the uncertainty, Ewan McGregor, who plays the titular role, opened up about the real deal about his future as the legendary Jedi master.

Appearing at the four-day Star Wars Celebration, McGregor teased fans about his long-awaited return as Obi-Wan. When asked if the 17-year gap was an appropriate time of separation from the character, the actor said: “The Star Wars part of my life is back, and it feels so good.” Meanwhile, addressing his future as Obi-Wan, McGregor gave a vague answer: “Maybe the audience will want more to come.”

McGregor also admitted that the first time he watched the final episode when his character said goodbye to Princess Leia (Vivien Lyra Blair), he cried uncontrollably. “There’s something about the scene that surprised us both when we shot it. About how emotional it became. It didn’t necessarily feel that way on the page. It had something to do with us. We met each other a long time ago in Australia doing Episode II and [Hayden was] a young, young, young actor and our lives have happened between then and now. There was something about the experience of working together again because it’s just, like, we just love each other you know? And hadn’t seen each other for such a long time. And the moment of shooting it, all of that was alive in the scene and that’s beautiful when that happens. It’s such a wonderful experience and certainly, that’s what it feels like up there.” he narrated.

Given the uncertain future of the show, President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy discussed with Variety the missing titles from the recently announced slate, especially the discouraging news about the Obi-Wan Kenobi series. “That is not an active development. But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another. Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see by what we showed everybody [at the Celebration]. We’ll turn our attention to that again, maybe down the road.” said Kennedy.

For now, the promises are as good as they get, and fans have no choice but to wait and hope that the second season will pop up soon.
