Lucasfilm President Opens Up About the Exciting Future of Star Wars Movies

The past weekend has been eventful for Star Wars fans following the announcement of new Star Wars movies and some exciting details about the upcoming slate of the franchise’s shows on Disney+. Given that Star Wars has been inactive on the big screen for a while now, this is an anticipated comeback. Not to mention the stellar standing of the current Star Wars series like The Mandalorian, which is streaming right now. With that, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy discussed how the new titles get to make the cut and how they will differ from the previous outings of the franchise.

“You know, it really comes down to the development process. As you know, it's an ever-evolving thing and it's pretty straightforward. We get scripts in, we're working with really talented people. We spent the time talking about it. 'Is it getting there? Is it ready?' It's not a mystery to how it works. So, you know, we've even got things that we've been developing for a long, long time that could see the light of day. We just don't know exactly when. And, with talented people too. We've got a lot of people that are, you know, managing very busy schedules because they're talented, unfortunately. But, you know, that's what we're always juggling.” Kennedy told Comicbook.com

During the Star Wars Celebration this year, Lucasfilm announced five untitled upcoming Star Wars movies, coming from notable directors Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Dave Filoni, James Mangold, Taika Waititi, and Shawn Levy. More details have also been revealed about the franchise’s Disney+ shows, including Lando, Star Wars: The Acolyte, Andor Season 2, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Ahsoka, Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures, and Star Wars: Visions - Volume 2.

Given this exciting premise, Kennedy also assured the fans that they are doing the best they can to not replicate previous stories so that they can maintain the reputation of the franchise considering the audience’s expectations. “As I said, I think quality is always everything. We want to tell resonating stories that really speak to what Star Wars is. I don’t really want it and none of us want it to become like everything else. We want it to be something that continues to live up to the expectation that fans have. And that’s the most important to all of us.” she said to IGN.

More details about the upcoming Star Wars movies are yet to be announced.
