2022 was a monumental year for the Star Wars franchise as it revisited an important part of the Skywalker saga none of us thought would ever get explored. Obi-Wan Kenobi may not have exceeded expectations but it brought back two of the most beloved actors in the galaxy, Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen 17 years after their hair-raising encounter in Revenge of the Sith.

During an interview on the Disney Studio Awards consideration site along with Christensen, McGregor revealed that the show's finale episode took him by surprise simply because of how emotional it turned out to be.

Ewan explains: "Well, like Hayden said, it took us by surprise a bit, I think. In the playing of it, it became quite emotional in a way that I don’t think I had imagined it would be."

"Obviously… the series is leading up that moment where Obi-Wan has to step back into the ring and has to not only try to step back into the world of the Jedi and to fight… through the series and the confrontations he has, he’s sort of building up to it. You can see him getting his strength back and he has to save Leia when she falls from the top of the rooftop."

"There are obviously stepping stones back but it’s leading to this moment where he has to fight his old Padawan, you know? His best friend. So there’s the emotional side of that and then there’s the physical side of that, and both were a surprise."

Say what you will about the show but it's beyond gratifying to see Ewan and Hayden's Star Wars journeys come full circle. Hopefully, the rumored second season of the series will be able to right the wrongs Season 1 unfortunately committed.

All episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi are available to stream on Disney+.
