Everyone Gets a Sword in Upcoming X-Men Event 'X of Swords'

The X-Men have some of the most diverse sets of powers out there so giving any of them a weapon might seem like overkill. It seems like current X-Men and New Mutants writer Jonathan Hickman doesn't believe in overkill as Marvel Comics has announced a new event called X of Swords, with the X being roman numeral 10, where everyone gets a sword.

Because that's what the X-Men need right? Swords?

Announced during C2E2 (via Marvel.com), X of Swords will be a 15-part crossover helmed by Hickman, with a number of the other X-Men creative teams also involved in the event. Major details have yet to be revealed about this crossover, though fans can see a number of familiar swords being helmed by certain characters. Wolverine, for example, is holding the Muramasa Blade, which can kill anyone with a healing factor.

Other swords have fans talking, including the thunder sword of Storm and the Dark Side lightsaber of Cyclops. Why Scott Summers has gone to the Dark Side is sad and we can only hope that Jean Grey and Wolverine help him out. All jokes aside, seeing Cyclops wielding a lightsaber is pretty cool, as is seeing the other members of the X-Men hold swords.

Does the event sound ridiculous? Sure but this is Jonathan Hickman we're talking about. The writer single-handedly made the X-Men interesting again with House of X and Powers of X so we're sure that this will be a good storyline. At the least, it will be fun.

X of Swords will be coming out this July.
