Ethan Hawke Slams Logan for being Overrated

James Mangold's Logan has come down to be one of the most beloved superhero films ever made, but apparently someone is not impressed—actor Ethan Hawke. During a recent interview, Hawke reveals that he had seen the film and thinks that it has been overrated.

Talking to The Film Stage, Hawke says:

"Now we have the problem that they tell us Logan is a great movie. Well, it's a great superhero movie. It still involves people in tights with metal coming out of their hands. It's not Bresson. It's not Bergman. But they talk about it like it is."

I went to see Logan cause everyone was like, ‘This is a great movie' and I was like, ‘Really? No, this is a fine superhero movie.' There's a difference but big business doesn't think there's a difference. Big business wants you to think that this is a great film because they wanna make money off of it."

With Mangold getting the Boba Fett directing job from Disney, a lot of people immediately assumed that it was due to his work on Logan. Though the film is well liked by fans, it does admittedly still have flaws and tropes. I guess it's best to just appreciate how the film has subverted the supherhero genre.

As for Hawke, he's a very distinguished actor, and I don't blame him for having different standards when it comes to movies. He's not the first to criticize superhero films, and he won't be the last. Maybe someday, we may even see him in a comic book movie as well.

Logan is currently available for home video.
