Taika Waititi Reportedly Met With Marvel About Possible Phase 4 Film

Taika Waititi might be working on a new Marvel Cinematic Universe film soon. The Thor: Ragnarok director has reportedly met with Marvel Studios about an undisclosed Phase 4 project.

The Hollywood Reporter recently revealed that production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been put on hold as Disney and Marvel scrambles to find a new director following James Gunn's firing. Interestingly, the same report noted that Waititi had a meeting with the studio about possibly helming a new MCU project.

Is this coincidence? Probably not. Fans have been pushing for Waititi to replace Gunn when the latter was fired in July. The What We Do in the Shadows co-director certainly seems capable of bringing humor and heart to the third Guardians of the Galaxy film. I am definitely keeping my fingers crossed on this one in hopes we'll see another Waititi movie sometime in the near future.

Alternatively, Marvel might have other plans for Waititi. There could be plans for a fourth Thor film that could be two hours of the Odinson just hanging out with his new roommate Darryl Jacobson and Bruce Banner. Although a full-length Team Thor movie could be out of the question, I just wanted to get that idea out in case Marvel wants to consider it.

Waititi is currently working on the dark comedy Jojo Rabbit, which will also feature Marvel stars Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, and Logan actor Stephen Merchant.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is still slated for release in 2020.
