Ethan Hawke Reveals Surprising Connection to Stranger Things and Maya Hawke's "Aligned in the Stars" Role

Now that Stranger Things is approaching the monumental finale, fans all over the world can't wait how to witness how the Hawkins gang will officially seal the gates of the Upside Down in Season 5. There’s no denying that the Stranger Things fandom now reaches a global scale, amazingly, one of them is Academy Award nominee, Ethan Hawke. In a recent interview with ET, Hawke expressed how proud he is of his daughter Maya Hawke — who plays Robin Buckley in the show, and how he believes that the role is meant for his daughter.

"This is the biggest surprise that's happened to me in my life," Hawke said. "What it's like to have a grown-up child and watch them turn into a human being that I really admire — Maya is extremely fun to be around, passionate and serious and funny and playful, and I feel connected to Stranger Things.

Hawke went on to reveal an astonishing coincidence that is plainly the universe's way to make sure that Maya follows the same path as his father.

"A lot of people don't know this, but when the first upside down world took place, it actually took place on November 6th, 1983 in Hawkins, which was my 13th birthday, which was the year I made Explorers and started acting," he revealed. "So I feel somehow like this was meant to be for Maya, like, it was aligned in the stars."

The actor acknowledged Maya's performance in the Netflix hit show and shared how happy he is that her daughter is surrounded by a group of young talented actors.

"I loved the show, and he show," Hawke continued. "I'm so proud of her, 'cause I think she does a great job, but I'm most happy for her that she's surrounded by these other amazing, talented young people. That was my experience on Dead Poet's Society, getting to be surrounded by other young people who were in love with the same thing that I was in love with, getting to tell a story that affects your generation."

Maya Hawke will return in Season 5 of Stranger Things and help her friends retake Hawkins and go in a final showdown against Vecna, while Ethan Hawke is occupied with his new HBO Max project The Last Movie Stars, a documentary following the life and love story of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, premiering on July 21.

All episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 are available to stream on Netflix.
