During the opening remarks of the event last Tuesday, Elle Editor-in-Chief Nina Garcia informed the attendees that the actresses from the upcoming Marvel film, Eternals, would not be able to come to the event as a precaution after they were possibly exposed to someone who tested positive with COVID-19. Garcia said, “Those superheroes are now in super isolation.”

The actresses were honorees of the Elle Magazine‘s 2021 Women In Hollywood in-person gala event along with Gal Gadot, Halle Berry, Jennifer Hudson, Jodie Comer, and Rita Moreno.

It could be remembered that Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, Gemma Chan, and Lauren Ridloff attended the world premiere of Eternals on Monday night at the El Capitan theater in Los Angeles and they were with the other cast members of the movie.

In a report from The Hollywood Reporter, a statement from a Disney spokesperson revealed that the actresses tested negative but were taken into isolation as a way of precaution, “Earlier today we were made aware of a possible exposure to COVID-19, and while all of our talent have tested negative, out of an abundance of caution, we are pivoting to virtual appearances rather than in-person events.”

There were no reports yet as to the other cast members who were not included in the said event where the attendance of the actresses was canceled and whether they were also exposed to someone who tested positive. Disney remains silent as to whether the exposure happened during the premiere night of Eternals or somewhere else.

With the industry slowly picking itself up from the rubble after being hit hard by the pandemic, the fact that COVID-19 is still present cannot be controverted. Even for the people already vaccinated, the virus can still latch itself to anyone it can get into.

Eternals premieres on November 5, 2021 in theaters.
