With fewer big names than in previous seasons, Summer 2022 is the perfect time to discover new anime. Definitely one to consider for fans of teen romance and fantasy anime, here’s Engage Kiss’s release date, countdown and all you need to know about the original series.

What is Engage Kiss? Plot Explained

Engage Kiss is a romantic comedy anime with action and fantasy elements, taking place in the futuristic Bayron City.

As it’s an original anime, not much is known about Engage Kiss beyond what has been officially released. The series was originally marketed as a romantic comedy, but the recent trailers and official synopsis (in Japanese) suggest there is a strong action element involved.

What we do know is that the city where the story takes place is powered by a new energy source. However, that source has also created demons that cause disasters, and private military companies (PMCs) are tasked with the city’s protection.

The protagonist Shu is a young freelance demon hunter whose bad spending habits constantly leave him penniless. One of his part-time assistants, a demon girl named Kisara, worries for him. However, so does Ayano, Shu’s ex-girlfriend and elite agent at a PMC where Shu used to work.

So begins a love triangle where each character’s personal and professional lives constantly need to be balanced.

Engage Kiss is directed by Tomoya Tanaka; it’s his first major directorial role, following years as an episode director on Hunter x Hunter among others. The series is scripted by Fumiaki Maruto, the original creator behind highly-praised romances such as White Album 2 and SaeKano.

Engage Kiss boasts original character designs by Tsunako, who did many of the character designs for the Date A Live series.

Engage Kiss is the first part of a multimedia project named Project Engage, which will include a manga adaptation and mobile game. This is similar to Takt Op Destiny, a fantasy-action anime released in 2021.

Engage Kiss Release Date

Engage Kiss is scheduled for release on Sunday, July 3rd in Japan. As it is airing early in the morning, viewers in western regions should see the premiere on Saturday, July 2nd.

The first episode is set to air in Japan at 12:30 AM on Sunday, July 3rd on TOKYO MX and other affiliated channels.

The series is streaming in most international regions on Crunchyroll. While no official release time on the platform has been announced, episodes usually stream around one hour after they have been aired in Japan.

With that in mind, here is when we expect you’ll be able to watch Engage Kiss in your region:
