It looks like the COVID-19 outbreak really is taking its toll on the entertainment industry. Major events have been forced to cancel thanks to the spread of the novel coronavirus, and one of the conventions to take the hit is this year's Emerald City Comic Con.
Taking to Twitter, the Emerald City Comic Con organizers released a statement saying that it's rescheduling the dates of the convention in light of the recent coronavirus pandemic. The organizers are offering fans who've already bought their tickets to the event two options – either they can exchange their existing tickets for the new date, or they can request a refund for the event.
However, convention-goers out to be reminded that it may take time for the organizers to process their requests given the size of the event.
The exchange of tickets is going to take place beginning today until March 27, so con goers with tickets should be reminded to get their tickets exchanged or refunded as soon as they can. According to the ECCC website for ticket exchange, any tickets that have not been exchanged within the set time frame will be canceled and refunded after March 30.
This new update by the Emerald City Comic Con is the very first major cancellation to commit to a firm rescheduling date. Other conventions have simply canceled, like this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo. Meanwhile, the organizers of the 2020 San Diego Comic-Con International are still looking into the developments of the COVID-19 outbreak to see whether it might affect the convention in July.
