Supergirl's Fate in Elseworlds Promo is a Nod to The Flashpoint Paradox

The Elseworlds crossover event is between three DC shows of The CW, but so far, we've only gotten the sides of Barry Allen and Oliver Queen. Now new promo gives us an idea of what's going to happen to Supergirl in this alternate reality.

As it turns out, the story may be drawing from Superman's fate from The Flashpoint Paradox comic in that he's imprisoned, unable to use his powers. In the promo we have, Kara being locked up by her sister Alex and though it's not like her entire origin is new, I think it's a great nod to another alternate reality storyline from the comics.

What's interesting is you can also spot the "S" symbol on Alex's uniform, which could mean that she's working for the black suit Superman. It's been confirmed by set photos that the black suit Superman is evil, and if he's running the government, this could be another nod to Elseworlds story Superman: Red Son in which Superman establishes himself as communist leader of the world.

Though alternate reality storylines are pretty commonplace with TV shows, this Arrowverse crossover is different in the sense that they have a lot of material to draw from. Besides everyone's lives being turned upside down, it's also worth noting that this crossover will see the debut of Ruby Rose as Batwoman. Her show, though, is set to premiere sometime next year.

The Elseworlds event runs for three nights and starts Dec. 9.
