Ellen Pompeo would make fewer appearances on the upcoming new season of Grey’s Anatomy as she slows her roll on the nose-diving series, a new report claimed.
Ellen Pompeo Will Appear In Fewer Grey’s Anatomy Episodes?
National Enquirer, in its latest edition, reported that Ellen Pompeo, who starred as Dr. Meredith grey for all 19 seasons, would appear in only a “handful of episodes” while continuing to produce and narrate all of them.
Sources told the entertainment news outlet that Ellen Pompeo has grown weary of the part but feels committed to the series, where she has had a controlling creative role for numerous installments.
However, as National Enquirer previously reported, even Ellen Pompeo hinted she wanted to pull the plug after ratings sank to an all-time low. TV critic Bill Mann, in March, said:
“The show appears to be plodding along now, waiting for ABC execs to put it out of its misery.”
In December, Ellen Pompeo revealed that she has “been trying to focus on convincing everybody” it “should end.” In a recent interview, the actress said:
“I feel like I’m super naïve one who keeps saying, ‘but what’s the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?’ Everyone’s like, ‘Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion dollars!”
Kevin McKidd Defends Ellen Pompeo’s Decision To Limit Her Appearance
Meanwhile, actor Kevin McKidd thinks that change is a good thing, especially when it comes to Grey’s Anatomy cast shake-ups. The co-star of Ellen Pompeo, who plays Dr. Owen Hunt, told E! News Daily Pop:
"Ellen has been the captain of this ship all these years, and she's about to start producing, so she needed to make room in her schedule for that.”
Kevin McKidd also pointed out that it is not like Grey’s Anatomy will be fully without Meredith Grey. He said:
“The fact that she's not leaving the show and is just gonna scale it back a bit—what I think is beautiful about it is that it shows her love for the show still."
It turned out that it was not only Ellen Pompeo who is changing her role in Grey’s Anatomy. To recall, Season 18 ended with Owen, his wife Teddy (Kim Raver) and their kids leaving the country on a plane.
Asked if fans would see him return next season, the co-star of Ellen Pompeo teased:
"It's a little too early to say. All I can say is we have these new amazing interns, who are this kind of new blood in the show."
It remains unclear if Grey’s Anatomy would be cancelled after the upcoming new season. So, avid followers of the medical series should take all these cancellation rumors with a huge grain of salt until everything is proven true and correct.
