When fans were losing hope on Tom Holland returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Sony and Disney decided to make up and mend fences. Fans were ecstatic for his return and took to social media about their reactions to the good news. Including Holland himself, as well as his co-stars Zendaya and Elizabeth Olsen. But as it turns out, Olsen's alleged welcome back post for Holland (via Twitter user bruisedvain) was misunderstood by many.
Olsen recently had an interview with Seth Myers on his late-night show where they talked about "keeping Marvel secrets." Eventually, the topic of Olsen's post was brought up. Fans assumed that the video she posted on her Instagram Story which showed her spiders were an indirect way of her welcoming back the Spider-Man actor.
"The thing that I love to photograph the most are the spiders around my house, I had this one red spider that looked like a scorpion and it was so gnarly looking," she shares. "I put it online and apparently it was the same day that they announced that Tom Holland was coming back to the MCU, and everyone thought I did this like huge welcome back to Tom Holland, and that's how I found out."
It turns out that Olsen wasn't actually aware of the news that day and just posted the video without any intention behind it. Of course, even though she revealed that it wasn't a welcome back post for Holland, Olsen was still very much happy for the actor's return in the MCU.
If you recall, fans wanted Spider-Man to stay in the MCU so bad that they even made a petition that reached up to 83k signs back in August. Tom Holland became a crowd-favorite as the live-action incarnation of Peter Parker and it would be a shame for Spidey-fans to only see the actor in a few Marvel movies, and now, they finally got their wishes granted.
Spider-Man 3 is expected to be released on July 16, 2021, and WandaVision will premiere on Disney+ in Spring 2021.
