Elizabeth Olsen has received a lot of praise and thumbs-up for her portrayal of Scarlet Witch, a.k.a Wanda Maximoff. However, another anti-hero is named Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) top villain.
Elizabeth Olsen's Scarlet Witch Only Comes Second To This MCU Anti-Hero
Screen Rant ranked the villains in MCU this year, and unsurprisingly, Olsen's character Scarlet Witch made it into the list. However, some might find it surprising that she didn't bag the top spot. Olsen only comes second after a new MCU character.
The outlet considered Tenoch Huerta's Namor from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever the no. 1 villain in MCU for 2022. Namor is an anti-hero who protects his own people. His backstory also supports his principles and even the theme and character arc of Shuri, which could have been her alternate path.
Screen Rant praised Huerta's performance in Wakanda Forever and noted that his role in the superhero movie has put his name on the map for many audiences that had never watched his previous movie projects.
"Namor's design is fantastic, and the updated Mesoamerican setting and culture work flawlessly. Namor is sure to be a major presence in the franchise going forward, and his backstory, motivation, performance, uniqueness, and more make Namor the best MCU villain of 2022," the outlet wrote.
Marvel Studios Is Campaigning For An Oscar Nomination For Elizabeth Olsen
Elizabeth Olsen's character is one of the most powerful figures in the Marvel universe. The studio acknowledged her wonderful performance in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which is why Marvel Studio is campaigning for her for an Oscar accolade. The studio is making the same effort for more Marvel stars, including Benedict Cumberbatch, Chris Hemsworth, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Natalie Portman and more.
Olsen's fans were delighted with the news because they believed that the Wanda Vision star deserves it. However, others doubt if she will win because Oscar rarely recognizes superhero movies.
"Elizabeth Olsen's Oscar campaign has started," one happy fan commented, the Independent reported (via Yahoo! Movies). "I don't think she'll win, but I think she more than deserves the nomination, at least. She carried that film."
"Absolutely deserved! She deserves this nomination so much," a third fan wrote. "She absolutely deserves it after her incredible performance in this movie!"
