Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson Claims Black Adam’s Arrival Will Mark a "New Era of the DC Universe"

Warner Bros. is entirely placing their hopes on Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's upcoming debut as the infamous anti-hero, Black Adam. Despite recently saying that the titular villain would be the "main conflict" of the film, according to The Rock, Black Adam would absolutely change the course of the whole DC Universe.

The Rock made a surprise appearance at last week's San Diego Comic-Con wearing his Black Adam suit. In an interview with Screenrant during Warner Bros.’s press line, Johnson teased how his villainous debut will change the franchise's hierarchy.

"That footage is a reflection of our tone. That footage is also a reflection of our director's vision, who wanted to create something that was different; who wanted to create a movie that was disruptive," The Rock said. "But also he wanted to create a movie that would start the pendulum swing in the DC universe. In addition to the hierarchy of power that I've been talking about, this pendulum swing [will] usher in a new era of the DC Universe. A new antihero era; a new era of tone, and a new era of story. And also, it's this incredible opportunity that we have at Seven Bucks Productions for Black Adam's storytelling to build out the DC Universe with disruption and with respect. Listening to the fans, because they'll always guide you."

Following Warner Bros.'s consecutive box office flops and the uncertainty about the future of some of their mainstay actors like Henry Cavill and Ezra Miller, the studio indeed needs a tremendous reinvention that would somehow reboot the franchise. Considering The Rock's thriving career and influential stature beyond Hollywood, Black Adam undoubtedly stands a chance at restoring the DC Universe.

The upcoming film stars Johnson as the titular hero, together with an ensemble cast featuring Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, Noah Centineo as Albert Rothstein, Sarah Shahi as Isis, and Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate.

Black Adam will premiere in theaters on October 21.
