Dwayne Johnson Not Returning In Fast 10 But Ready for Hobbs & Shaw 2

There is little doubt that Luke Hobbs has become an important part of the Fast and Furious family. However, it looks like Dwayne Johnson is no longer interested in returning in the planned sequel Fast 10.

It might seem final but that doesn't mean you've seen the last of Hobbs. Fans will still get a chance to see Johnson pairing up with Jason Statham in Hobbs & Shaw 2.

It's no secret that the tension between Johnson and Vin Diesel had led to the creation of the spin-off Hobbs & Show and it turned out to be a huge success. The film, which also starred Vanessa Kirby, went on to earn over $759 million worldwide. Naturally, this meant that a sequel is in the cards.

Dwayne Johnson's Seven Bucks Productions partner Hiram Garcia recently spoke to Collider, confirming that they are still "trying to figure out what that sequel is going to be" but assures fans that they already have "some big ideas." Garcia went on to confirm that Johnson has no interest in coming back to the core franchise.

"After filming Fast 8, [Dwayne Johnson] made the clear decision to close the Fast & Furious chapter for all the evident reasons. He wished them all well and shifted our focus on other storytelling avenues," Garcia said. He then pointed out that although Johnson isn't in F10 or F11, it will not "in any way interfere with our Hobbs plans."

There is little doubt that the spin-off managed to stand on its own back in 2019. The action film, which also featured Idris Elba as a self-described "Black Superman", was a thrilling ride that concluded with a promise for a sequel. Needless to say, we can't wait to see what Hobbs and Shaw will be up to in the second movie.

Johnson's latest film Jungle Cruise is now screening in theaters and on Disney+ via Premier Access.
