Dwayne Johnson and Ryan Reynolds Top Forbes’ List of Highest Paid Actors of 2020

COVID-19 may have slowed down the Hollywood machine, but the industry is slowly getting back on its feet. With the last fiscal year ending last June, Forbes has come out with a list of the highest paid actors of 2020, and the top two come from both camps of Marvel and DC.

According to Forbes, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Ryan Reynolds have made the most money out of all-male actors for the fiscal year ending in June 2020. Johnson had made an estimated $87.5m with Reynolds earning $71.5m.

Apparently Netflix has become the lead employer for these stars, seeing that both have past and incoming projects with the streaming giant. Reynolds has teamed up with Netflix for 6 Underground and is coming back for Red Notice alongside The Rock.

I guess it also doesn't hurt that Reynolds and Johnson have been keeping busy the past year. Besides Deadpool, Reynolds has had appearances in Detective Pikachu and the upcoming Free Guy. Johnson, on the other hand, has Ballers, Jumanji, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (which also featured a cameo from Reynolds).

Interestingly enough, here are the other 8 highest-earning actors in the top 10:

  • Mark Wahlberg, $58M
  • Ben Affleck, $55M
  • Vin Diesel, $54M
  • Akshay Kumar, $48.5M
  • Lin-Manuel Miranda, $45.5M
  • Will Smith, $44.5M
  • Adam Sandler, $41M
  • Jackie Chan, $40M

We don't know what the future of the industry holds, but you have to hand it to Reynolds and Johnson for being top stars who always seem to be working. Hopefully, they get to return to their comic book movie counterparts soon.

Black Adam is looking at a release on Dec. 22, 2021, with Deadpool's return to the MCU still unknown. Reynolds' Free Guy comes out Dec. 11.
