Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham Would Tease Idris Elba About Cats

Idris Elba is starring in the upcoming movie adaptation of Cats, but before that hits theaters, he's appearing in the Fast and Furious spinoff Hobbs & Shaw alongside Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. What's funny is, Elba revealed that Statham and Johnson would make fun of him on the set for working on the Cats musical.

Elba and Stephen Colbert start talking about Cats at 5:08:

If you watch the entire interview, you'll also kind of get the feeling that Elba doesn't understand the point of Cats as well. He does a good job at explaining the gist of it, but he looks admittedly confused when he tries to hype up the movie. If anything, Cats is kind of a "style over substance"play, with the main draws being the music and the costumes; not much is really said about plot.

Though Cats is a big film for music geeks, the first trailer for the movie has not been received well by the general audience. A lot of criticism is going for the appearance of the characters, but I think the film is still going to polish everything up before the movie actually hits theaters. If anything, I'm sure the audience will be onboard after the first few minutes.

I reception is only as good as the last trailer, so hopefully Cats comes up with something better in the next few months.

Catch Elba in Cats when it comes out Dec. 20.
