The science-fiction epic Dune was a huge success at the box office and it was received well by the critics and the audience. It has also garnered numerous nominations during this awards season. Soon after the film was released, a sequel was given an official green light by Warner Bros. and now we can look forward to Paul Atreides' next journey in Arrakis.

In a recent interview with Deadline celebrating his SAG Award nomination, Javier Bardem, who plays Stilgar in the film, was asked if he has any update on the highly-anticipated sequel which is set to begin filming later this year. He said, "I haven’t read anything yet, so I’m not sure what’s coming up next for me in Dune. I know as much as you do at this point. I hear there are scripts but I haven’t read anything. cannot wait to put myself into the hands of [director] Denis Villeneuve again. I love the guy."

As he is waiting on the script of the sequel, he has one request for his character. "The only thing I’m asking is that I get to ride a sandworm," he said with a laugh. "Denis told me he’s going to try to make that happen. That does happen in the book, by the way. Stilgar teaches Paul [Atreides] how to take the desert power, which is to domesticate those huge animals in order to use their force, their strength, and their huge size against the Harkonnen. Hopefully, that will happen."

As much as it may sound like a hilarious request from Bardem, riding a sandworm was part of the novel and we can bet at this point that his request will actually happen given Paul and Stilgar's storyline in the sequel. It's going to be interesting to see how it will look like on the screen, but we can certainly tell that Bardem will have a great time doing it (even though the sandworm will be CGI).
