Dune, The Matrix Resurrections Among the Films Included in 2022 BAFTA Film Awards Longlists

As we are now heading deep into the awards season, the 2022 BAFTA Film Awards has unveiled their longlists in all categories. These are the films that will be considered for the nomination voting according to the results of Round One of voting. Round Two will determine the films that will be part of the official nominations list which will be announced on February 3 while the main ceremony itself is scheduled on March 13.

Among the films that are leading the longlists is the science-fiction epic Dune which made it in categories such as Best Film, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Casting, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Editing, Best Makeup and Hair, Best Original Score, Best Production Design, Best Special Visual Effects, and Best Sound. Meanwhile, The Matrix Resurrections and Ghostbusters: Afterlife were able to make it in the categories Best Special Visual Effects and Best Sound.

However, comic book movies weren't able to get any recognition except in the Best Special Visual Effects where films such as Black Widow, Eternals, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Suicide Squad, and Venom: Let There Be Carnage made it in the list.

In the acting categories, MCU stars such as Mahershala Ali (Swan Song), Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog), Peter Dinklage (Cyrano), Andrew Garfield (tick, tick... BOOM!, The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Tessa Thompson (Passing), Bradley Cooper (Licorice Pizza), Benicio del Toro (The French Dispatch), J.K. Simmons (Being the Ricardos), and Cate Blanchett (Don't Look Up) were able to make it in the longlists as well.

There were also DCEU stars who are included in the longlists with contenders such as Will Smith (King Richard), Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), Rachel Zegler (West Side Story), and Jared Leto (House of Gucci).

It is impressive that these films were able to make it in the longlists and we can say that most of them deserve to be part of the list. Of course, they need to undergo another round of voting as it will determine which of them will make it in the nominations list.

The 2022 BAFTA Film Awards nominations are scheduled to be announced on February 3.
