Dune Nabs 10 Critics Choice Awards Nominations

We are now heading to yet again another awards season where we see the best films of the year being honored by different awards-giving bodies. Earlier this morning, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) revealed the Golden Globe Awards nominees. Now, it's the Critics Choice Association (CCA)'s time to shine as they unveiled the nominees at the 27th Annual Critics Choice Awards.

The hit science-fiction film Dune received 10 nominations at the 27th Annual Critics Choice Awards. They received nominations for Best Picture, Best Director for Denis Villeneuve, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Production Design, Best Editing, Best Costume Design, Best Hair and Makeup, Best Visual Effects, and Best Score. The film is tied with The Power of the Dog as the second-most nominated films, with Belfast and West Side Story tied as the films with the most nominations with 11 each.

Dune is competing in the top prize alongside nine other films such as Belfast, CODA, Don't Look Up, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power of the Dog, Tick, Tick... Boom!, and West Side Story. Villeneuve is competing for the directing prize alongside other great directors such as Paul Thomas Anderson (Licorice Pizza), Kenneth Branagh (Belfast), Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog), Guillermo del Toro (Nightmare Alley), and Steven Spielberg (West Side Story).

The other genre films that also received nominations are Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and The Matrix Resurrections with each getting a Best Visual Effects nomination, Cruella (Best Costume Design and Best Hair and Makeup, Free Guy (Best Comedy), No Time to Die (Best Visual Effects and Best Original Song), and del Toro's latest movie Nightmare Alley which nabbed eight nominations. It is nice that the critics honored Dune with a lot of nominations from the top prize to the technical and craft categories. It just shows how much they love the film and it just proves that it is indeed one of the best films this year. It is also a great beginning for the film's journey this awards season on the way to the Oscars and they are expected to get more recognition as more award-giving bodies are unveiling their nominations.
