Dune Earns Best Picture Nomination at the Golden Globe Awards


Despite its major controversy earlier this year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) is still pushing through with its next Golden Globe Awards ceremony. This morning, they have announced the nominees including two for an MCU show and three major nominations for the biggest science-fiction film this year.

Dune received three nominations at the 79th Golden Globe Awards which are Best Motion Picture - Drama (the coveted top prize in the ceremony), Best Director for Denis Villeneuve, and Best Original Score for Hans Zimmer. However, none of the cast members receive an acting nomination.

The film is competing in Best Motion Picture - Drama against other nominees such as Belfast, CODA, King Richard, and The Power of the Dog. Villeneuve is competing in his category against other directors such as Kenneth Branagh (Belfast), Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog), Maggie Gyllenhaal (The Lost Daughter), and Steven Spielberg (West Side Story) while Zimmer is competing in his category against other films such as The French Dispatch, Encanto, The Power of the Dog, and Parallel Mothers.

The other genre films that also received nominations this morning at the Golden Globe Awards are Swan Song (Best Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama for Mahershala Ali), Cruella (Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for Emma Stone), and No Time to Die (Best Original Song for Billie Eilish's "No Time to Die").

It is great to hear that Dune received nominations at the Golden Globe Awards and this boosts their chances of getting a lot of recognition during the awards season. A lot of people can agree that Dune is one of the best films this year and they deserve the honors that they received so far this season. Fingers crossed that this would be a great beginning for them on the way to the Oscars.
