WandaVision Stars Receive Golden Globe Nominations

Earlier this year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the organization behind the Golden Globe Awards, found themselves in a major controversy because of their inadequate efforts to address the diversity of their membership. As a result, studios, actors, and other prominent Hollywood figures are planning to boycott the ceremony and its long-time broadcaster NBC decided not to air the 2022 ceremony. But despite that, the Golden Globe Awards will still push through and, this morning, they've announced the nominees which includes two MCU stars.

WandaVision received two nominations at the 79th Golden Globe Awards which are Best Actress in a Limited Series or TV Film for Elizabeth Olsen and Best Actor in a Limited Series or TV Film for Paul Bettany. Unfortunately, it wasn't able to receive a nomination for Best Limited Series or TV Film nor a nomination for the supporting cast members.

Olsen will be competing against nominees such as Jessica Chastain (Scenes from a Marriage), Cynthia Erivo (Genius: Aretha), Margaret Qualley (Maid), and Kate Winslet (Mare of Easttown) while Bettany will be competing against nominees such as fellow MCU stars Oscar Isaac (Scenes from a Marriage) and Michael Keaton (Dopesick) as well as Ewan McGregor (Halston) and Tahar Rahim (The Serpent).

Other actors who have starred or will appear in MCU projects who also received Golden Globe nominations this morning are Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog), Mahershala Ali (Swan Song), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), and Peter Dinklage (Cyrano). We can also count Andrew Garfield (tick, tick... BOOM!), who is rumored to appear soon in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

It is great that Olsen and Bettany received nominations for their performances in the show. There's no doubt that they deserve the honor and they gave terrific performances that are worthy of honor from a major award-giving body (even with the Golden Globes' negative reputation at the moment). The show also recently received honors from the American Film Institute and the Critics Choice Awards, adding to the numerous recognitions that they got throughout the year.
