Dumbledore's Sexuality is Hinted at in the Fantastic Beasts 2 Trailer

After The Deathly Hallows came out, J.K. Rowling dropped the bomb on Potterheads that Dumbledore is actually gay—for his old friend Grindelwald specifically. With the Fantastic Beasts 2 further adding to Dumbledore's history, there's actually a hint at his sexuality in the final trailer.

The trailer actually gives us a look at the Mirror of Erised and Potter fans will be familiar with its ability to show people what it is that they desire most. In the trailer, we get a short clip of who looks to be young Grindelwald and it looks like he's the projection in the mirror of who I assume is a younger Albus Dumbledore; heck, he could be the projection of the older Dumbledore as well.

It had been said that Fantastic Beasts 2 will not pore into Dumbledore's sexuality, but I think having him connecting hands with Grindelwald with the Mirror of Erised pretty much sends the message in a subtle way. It's worth noting that the relationship between the two was developed in their youth, but after the events which ended up killing Dumbledore's sister, Ariana, the two parted ways.

We don't know how exactly Dumbledore will be connected to this story, but it may have something to do with his friendship with Grindelwald. After all, by the end of this franchise, we should have him wielding the Elder Wand, something that is still in the possession of Grindelwald in the current timeline of Fantastic Beasts.

Will he get it in this film? We'll just have to watch and find out.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald comes out Nov. 16.
