It has been a month now since the Japanese release of the new Dragon Ball Super Movie. Now, it is reported that Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero has reached over 2 billion yen at the Japanese box office.
The film’s box office take was reported recently by Mantan Web. In their report, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero has exceeded 2 billion yen since its release last June 11. The report also stated that the film has sold 1.54 million tickets since its release.

Super Hero’s box office results are impressive when compared to other anime movies, and even when compared with past Dragon Ball films, with the exception being Dragon Ball Super: Broly.
When Dragon Ball Super: Broly was released in 2018, the film reached over the 3.3 billion yen mark in just under a month. This means Broly earned 1 billion yen more in the same timeframe (as mentioned by Crunchyroll).
Though it’s a bit unfair to compare Broly and Super Hero. For one, Broly is a popular character, and the film itself is a reboot of the iconic Dragon Ball Z: Broly – The Legendary Super Saiyan.
There’s also the fact that Super Hero was released while some COVID restrictions are still in place, possibly affecting the box office totals.
Still, the fact that Super Hero is doing better than other anime films already makes it a major success, even if it has yet to release outside Japan.

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is a 3DCG anime movie and is the 21st film in the Dragon Ball franchise. The film follows Piccolo and Gohan as they go on a mission to save the world against the newly-reformed Red Ribbon Army which has created the powerful androids, Gamma 1 and Gamma 2.
Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero will release in cinemas worldwide in August and September 2022.
