Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero Surpasses Broly's Box Office Record

Dragon Ball Super is finally back! While Toei Animation hasn't confirmed any plans for a new season of the anime series, the latest movie, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, has finally arrived in theaters in Japan. This marks the anime's big comeback following its 2018 outing with Dragon Ball Super: Broly. Unsurprisingly, the latest movie managed to outperform Broly in Japan thanks to a new box office record.

The box office totals for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero's premiere weekend have been tallied in Japan, and according to the totals, the film managed to top the country's domestic box office and it sold more tickets on its opening day than the anime's last film did.

According to reports, the movie sold 210,000 tickets upon its release on June 11, Saturday. When Broly was released in 2018, only 111,000 tickets were sold that Friday, so as you can see, there's a strong demand for Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

As for the movie's overall box office results, Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero dominated Japan's deomstic box office, claiming the top spot, with $4.98 million USD following its Saturday premiere. 500,000 tickets were sold over the weekend at 407 screens which managed to surpass Top Gun Maverick. However, the anime's newest movie did not dethrone Broly's opening at $7+ million.
