As fans eagerly await more news on the upcoming Daima anime, the Super manga is gearing up for the release of its next volume. Ahead of its release this December, the cover art of Dragon Ball Super Volume 22 has been revealed, and it puts the adorable Pan front and center.

This new volume cover was revealed via Shueisha’s official channels recently, and it features a lot of familiar faces, even for those who haven’t caught up to the manga.

That’s because the latest volume cover features characters from last year’s 3D animated movie.

Last year saw the release of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, the latest anime film in the long-running franchise. It is also the second film in the Super series.

Even though it’s part of the Super storyline, the film’s story is standalone enough that even more casual Dragon Ball fans can easily follow the story and enjoy it.

Thanks to this, coupled with the franchise’s enduring popularity, Super Hero became a big box office hit. The film became the fourth-highest-grossing anime movie in the US.

Given that it’s a fairly standalone film, some have wondered if the Super Hero movie is canon. Well, it was soon confirmed to be canon as the Dragon Ball Super manga adapted the movie’s story as its next arc.

Following the Granolah the Survivor Saga, the manga retold the events of Super Hero. Of course, it’s not a 1:1 adaptation as the manga expands on the film’s events as the arc began months before the movie’s story.

The Super Hero arc in the manga is still ongoing, so it’s no surprise that the manga’s latest volume features characters that viewers of the film are familiar with.

Taking center stage in the volume cover is Pan, the adorable and powerful daughter of Gohan and Videl. Alongside her are Piccolo and Gohan.

In the background are Gamma 1, Gamma 2, and a slightly obscured Cell Max.

This next volume compiles the manga’s 93rd to 96th chapters. It is set to be released in Japan on December 4, 2023.

In the US, Volume 22 doesn’t have a release date yet. Based on the confirmed release schedule, fans can expect this volume to come out later in 2024.
