Dragon Ball Super: Broly Runtime Revealed

If you're a Dragon Ball fan, you're probably excited for Dragon Ball Super: Broly. This movie is going to continue the franchise after Super's Tournament of Power arc, focusing on the newly rebooted Broly and his reworked origins. Fans who remember the first time we saw Broly will remember that it was the longest Dragon Ball film at the time, running in at 72 minutes.

Well, the upcoming movie blows the old one out of the water in terms of the runtime as an interview has confirmed that Broly will be 100 minutes. That's an hour and 40 minutes of Dragon Ball action and we can only hope that this film is worth that runtime.

For those keeping count, that means Broly will be longer than Battle of Gods (85 minutes) and Resurrection F (94 minutes), making this one of the lengthiest Dragon Ball films. Considering all of the lore and revelations promised from Akira Toriyama, it seems like they will be using all of the film's time wisely. As long as it's paced properly, most of us won't complain.

Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly's original debut, suffered from bad pacing and felt overly long because of it. While the final battle between Broly and the Z Warriors was a decent way to end the film, a lot of time was wasted before that.

Broly will have a lot to do, not only reintroducing a character with rebooted origins but also adapting the controversial Dragon Ball Minus. Maybe the hour and 40 minutes are really needed to tell all of this story but let's hope none of the extra time feels like filler.

Dragon Ball Super: Broly comes out in Japan on December 14 and in North America on January 16, 2019.
