Donny Cates and Alan Moore Agree That Venom and Watchmen are Equal in Quality

It wasn't that long ago when Venom artist Ryan Stegman went on Twitter and proclaimed that the new series by him and writer Donnie Cates was better than Watchmen. This was clearly done in a joking manner and it even encouraged fans to get in on the joke. Even if the comic's quality isn't better than Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' masterpiece, it is one of Marvel's best ongoing titles right now.

Cates surprised fans by posting a selfie on Twitter with Moore himself and claiming that the whole Venom vs Watchmen debate has ended, stating that it was a tie. The writer could not hide his admiration for Moore, putting hashtags about how he's freaking out. In fairness to Cates, most of us fans would do the same thing.

Moore might have a great reputation as a writer but he has often been described as hard to work with, so seeing him smile with Cates is actually pretty shocking. He could have gotten along with Cates or maybe he's just happy that there is a comic that finally triumphs his.

However you feel about Venom, there's no doubt that this series has taken the character to new heights of popularity. Cates has built up the character's world quite a bit and recently gave him dragon wings, which is awesome.
