Don Cheadle has enjoyed a lengthy stay in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and while some people assumed that Rhodey's time in the franchise is over following the culmination of the Infinity Saga, it turns out that everything is just starting for War Machine who is getting an upgraded role in Phases 5 and 6.

Now, to those expecting him to don the Iron Man suit, we hate to burst your bubble as Cheadle isn't that interested in becoming Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU replacement. Speaking with Extra at D23 Expo 2022, the Armor Wars and Secret Invasion actor finally broke his silence regarding the speculation that he'll assume Iron Man's position in the billion-dollar franchise. Right off the bat, he dismissed the possibility of him ever suiting up as Iron Man, saying that Rhodey has his own identity.

He explains: "I don’t know. I mean I think that Rhodey is his own dude. I don’t think that anyone can really step into this… Tony Stark, Iron Man shoes. I think he did that as well as anyone could ever do it. But I think we’re going to learn a lot more about what Rhodey does want, and who he is, and what his sort of place, and the firmament of MCU will ultimately be. I honestly don’t know that much more than that you know."

Obviously, there will never be another Iron Man in the MCU's main timeline but logically speaking, War Machine is the best candidate to continue Tony Stark's legacy. This is why it isn't all that surprising how he'll heavily be involved in the upcoming Ironheart series.

The official release date for Armor Wars has yet to be announced but the project begins filming next year.
