Yuri on Ice’s long-awaited movie has sadly been canceled. This has led many to wonder if Yuri on Ice has a manga so they can get their ice skating fix.

Technically, Yuri on Ice does have a manga, though it’s not the typical ongoing source material many anime shows have.

While it’s still a must-read for fans who can get it officially, the manga is short and may not be enough to replace the canceled movie.

The Yuri on Ice anime series aired back in late 2016, and it was one of MAPPA’s most popular shows at that time, with many praising its engaging story and the relationship between Yuri Katsuki and Victor Nikiforov.

Thanks to its success, the original anime was confirmed to have a film follow-up in the works. This movie was announced way back in 2017.

It only got a proper trailer in early 2019, which was then streamed worldwide in November 2020.

Since then, MAPPA has not shared an update regarding the film, to the point that it was removed from the studio’s website back in October 2022, leading many fans to fear for its future.

Now, the Ice Adolescence movie is officially canceled, with the confirmation of its cancelation announced on the film’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.

With its cancelation, it’s not clear if the franchise will get another project moving forward.

Given that it’s an original anime, Yuri on Ice is not based on a manga, meaning fans disappointed by the film’s cancelation won’t have any source material to read.

The series did receive a manga back in 2017, though it’s only a short one-shot titled Yuri on Ice Side Story: Welcome to the Madness.

As the title implies, this side story manga follows Yuri Plisetsky and Otabek Altin on the night after the Grand Prix Final exhibition event.

This manga one-shot was released as a bonus item in the final volume of the anime’s Blu-ray release back in May 2017. Since then, the manga has not been officially released digitally or in English.

Thus, fans who want to read the manga officially will need to track down a copy of the Blu-ray – a tough ask considering how long it has been since it was released.
