Before his grand gesture that leads to the beginning of their romantic relationship, Miyuki asks Kaguya to also skip a year and go to Stanford with him.

Kaguya accepts with what seems like little thought but manga readers know that the dream won't come to be.

The manga makes Kaguya's desire to follow Miyuki even more explicit by having him ask her earlier, right after revealing his own acceptance.

Once again, Kaguya understands how serious his suggestion is but still answers in the positive without much delay, which seems perplexing if you don't know her complex inner world. After all, no romance had even been suggested up to that point.

After Kaguya and Miyuki start dating, the manga's focus must inevitably shift to other topics, including their personal problems and issues faced by their friends, including Ishigami and Iino.

As such, we find out a lot more about Kaguya's dysfunctional and abusive family. The anime has already made it clear that Kaguya has experienced little to no love at home. Why, then, doesn't she choose to flee to America with her beloved?

While Kaguya does apply to Stanford, she withdraws her application out of concern for Miyuki and her own struggles. Her brothers treat her relationship as a momentary flirt and are not shy about their wish to marry her off.

Moreover, Kaguya finds out that the downfall of the company where Miyuki's father used to be an SEO was caused by the Shinomiya family. And that happened before Miyuki became her boyfriend.
