There is little doubt that Olivia Colman is one of the biggest stars right now. After all, she just won an Academy Award for her performance in The Favourite. But before Colman became an Oscar winner, she first played a shape-shifting alien with terrible teeth on Doctor Who. Interestingly, Steven Moffat has just admitted that he wishes he gave The Crown actress a better role.

Moffat recently spoke to Radio Times about how he once got to work with Colman.

"Well, in my first series, Matt Smith's first one, there was Olivia Colman," Moffat said. "Olivia Colman, just a heartbeat before she was stratospheric."

Not surprisingly, Moffat confessed that he regrets using such a talented actor for a minor role.

"I think, ‘Oh we wasted that, didn't we!'" he said. "Bloody hell."

In the episode The Eleventh Hour, Colman played a mother who was controlled by the villainous Prisoner Zero. The future Oscar winner was given terrible CGI teeth in the episode. Needless to say, Colman certainly deserved better.

But what are the chances that Colman will return to Doctor Who in the future? Fans are hoping the busy actress will find time to reunite with current showrunner Chris Chibnall, whom she worked with on Broadchurch. Hey, she might even end up being the next Doctor after Jodie Whittaker but that's just wishful thinking for now.

Doctor Who Series 12 is currently in production. However, the show is not expected to return to BBC until early 2020.
