After thrilling fans with the Christmas episode last December, Doctor Who series 14 is finally here with its first proper episode. Aside from enjoying the Doctor and Ruby Sunday’s new adventure, Doctor Who fans can also spot easter eggs in the Space Babies episode.

Based on the show’s trailers and previews, the new season will be chock-full of easter eggs that eagle-eyed fans will have a fun time spotting.

In the first episode though, there are already some references to iconic movies which is no surprise given its story.

Spoiler Warning: This article includes spoilers for Doctor Who’s Space Babies episode, so proceed with caution.

Space Babies’ Story is Seemingly Inspired by Look Who’s Talking

As its title implies, the first episode of Doctor Who’s latest season will be all about space babies. Sure, the Doctor and Ruby take a quick detour to the past, but the talking babies are no doubt the center of attention.

Yes, there are many adorable babies in this episode, but they talk like proper adults, making this element of the episode seem straight out of the romantic comedy Look Who’s Talking.

You’ll be forgiven if you’re not familiar with this movie as it was released way back in 1989. This film follows the relationship of a single mother (Kirstie Alley) and her son’s babysitter (John Travolta).

The highlight of the film though is the baby who is voiced by Bruce Willis. To be exact, Willis voices the baby’s thoughts which only the audience can hear.

This jarring yet funny gimmick takes a turn for the weird in Doctor Who as the babies actually talking to the main duo isn’t exactly cute.

On the flip side, this perfectly leads to another easter egg inspired by a sci-fi horror classic.

Iconic Horror Film Alien is Another Doctor Who Space Babies Easter Egg

In the trailers for the new season, the Doctor and Ruby find themselves in a scene straight out of Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic Alien.

It turns out that this happens in Space Babies as the episode takes a lot of visual and story cues from the iconic sci-fi film.

Aside from the unmistakably Alien-like setting, the episode even features a monster that’s behind the central mystery.

While the first episode is already a fun time, the rest of the episodes promise even more references and nods to popular franchises.

Even More Easter Eggs are Coming in Future Episodes

Perhaps the most anticipated for many fans is the Bridgerton episode. Even Ruby herself name-drops the popular Netflix period drama in the trailer.

Fans will need to wait a bit for this episode though as the second episode will be all about The Beatles, albeit what happens if the legendary rock band did not come together.

This is because of the episode’s villain The Maestro who is played by Jinkx Monsoon, one of the most popular drag queens who is also known for being the only queen to win two Drag Race seasons.
