The production for the upcoming Doctor Who Season 14 is already underway, and the returning showrunner Russel T. Davies generously gives several updates about the series. From the number of episodes to Christmas specials to correcting some mistakes, it looks like a lot will happen in the show’s return next year.

Doctor Who Season 14 is believed to avoid the previous seasons’ three major problems by making it more modern today. The new season looks more promising now that Davies has returned to replace the divisive former showrunner Chris Chibnall.

The Changes in Doctor Who Season 14

In an interview with Doctor Who Magazine, via Bleeding Cool, Davies revealed the upcoming season would only have eight episodes—much shorter than its predecessors.

However, he teased that they had some plans behind it, though he was yet to reveal what it would be.

"Okay, that's fewer episodes than the last full season," he said. "But give us time. We have plans, and that's a promise!"

Davis also revealed that the Christmas specials are back in 2023 and 2024. And to make fans happier, there will be “no gaps and plenty of content.”

"It takes a while to get the empire in shape, but that's a serious plan: annual Doctor Who, no gap years, lots of content, on and on," he continued.

So, fans can expect to see the show continue every year after Doctor Who Season 14.

Doctor Who Season 14 to Make Three Big Revelations

According to ScreenRant, Chibnall made a controversial decision to add the Timeless Child retcon in the series, which saw the revelation that the Doctor wasn’t a Time Lord at all.

Instead, they are individuals outside the universe and become the base genetic template for the Time Lord race. This change complicated the show, as Chibnall was known for his disruptive production decisions.

However, fans should still credit him for making it with the best intentions, believing it would help the series.

Hence, with Davies’ return, he would start Doctor with big three revelations: the return of David Tennant and Catherine Tate, the introduction of the 15th Doctor Ncuti Gatwa with Millie Gibson’s Ruby Sunday, and correcting the bad decisions Chibnall made.
