Disney has released the first trailer for the upcoming Doctor Who series, which will feature Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor. The series will premiere on BBC iPlayer in the UK on May 11 and a day earlier on May 10 on Disney+ worldwide.

Although it is referred to as "season 1" of Doctor Who, the story follows the aftermath of the previous season. During the 60th anniversary special episode, David Tennant returned as the fourteenth incarnation of the Doctor and underwent a bi-generation process, resulting in the birth of the fifteenth doctor (Gatwa) while retaining his previous physical form (Tennant).

The upcoming season of Doctor Who appears to have a much larger budget than its predecessors, thanks in no small part to the dual-production between BBC, who until very recently produced the show in-house, and now Disney.

The recently released trailer is a testament to the show's visually stunning production design.

Some fans may argue that the show could lose some of its charm due to the increased emphasis on visuals, but the changes clearly aim to make Doctor Who more appealing to a wider audience.

True to Doctor Who's bizarre nature, this version of the time-travelling alien will wrestle with many unique predicaments in different scenarios, including a trip back to the prehistoric era and roaming the halls of England's Victorian-era palaces.

The cast of confirmed characters includes the aforementioned Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Millie Gibson playing Ruby Sunday, this season's companion. Other cast members include Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson, Yasmin Finney, Michelle Greenidge, Jonathan Groff, Bonnie Langford, Genesis Lynea, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush, Indira Varma and Angela Wynter.
