Many were surprised when David Tennant emerged as the Fourteenth Doctor after Jodie Whittaker's Thirteenth Doctor regenerated into him. As the Good Omens star returns to the 60th anniversary of Doctor Who, the actor reflects on his second iteration as the iconic Time Lord.
It will be the second time Tennant will play the role of the Doctor in the long-running BBC series. He first played a role in 2005 that lasted until 2010. So, what could he say about it?
David Tennant Addresses Doctor Who Return
In an interview with AP News to promote his new series Litvinenko, the 51-year-old reflected on his show's return.
Tennant was last seen playing the Doctor in the show's 50th-anniversary special, The Day of the Doctor, alongside Matt Smith as the Eleventh Doctor and John Hurt as the War Doctor.

"There’s a slight precedent for that, old doctors showing up for five minutes here and there,” he said.
“But to get a proper old run around in the Converse again was more than I ever dared imagine,” he continued. “So, it was a treat from start to finish."
David Tennant’s Fourteenth Doctor Role
According to ScreenRant, it’s already usual for the franchise to ask the previous Doctors to reprise their roles, and it has been going on for decades.
In fact, it started in Doctor Who Season 10 Episode 1, The Three Doctors, in 1972.
The most recent episode that featured the Doctors’ reunion was in The Power of the Doctor, seeing six previous incarnations, including Tennant.

The returning actor usually plays the main role, though the major focus will be on the current Doctor. So, this is probably how Tennant’s return will be different from the previous episodes that featured a Doctor’s return.
His return also proves the Curator’s claim on the 50th anniversary that the Doctor will “revisit some past faces.”
With three full episodes coming for Doctor Who 60th anniversary special, fans can expect Tennant’s true reprisal and not just another five minutes stint.
Meanwhile, aside from Tennant, showrunner Russell T. Davies also returns after reviving the show in 2005. His era will begin with the said three special episodes, which will be out in November 2023.
From there, there will also be a Christmas special that will introduce the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa. Doctor Who Season 14 will then be out in 2024.
