Doctor Strange 2 Writer Teases Deadly Consequences of Using the Darkhold

It's no secret that Stephen Strange has made a lot of mistakes in the past. However, it looks like his latest one could prove to be his undoing. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron has confirmed that using the Darkhold was a huge error for Stephen and we could see the dangerous consequences in the future!

In Doctor Strange 2, a desperate Stephen Strange tries to stop Scarlet Witch from stealing America Chavez's power since it would kill the teenager. Because he's stuck in a different universe, Stephen decides to use the Darkhold to dreamwalk back in his own universe by using the corpse of his variant.

He ultimately succeeds in defeating Wanda Maximoff who promptly destroys the Darkhold in every universe. However, Michael Waldron says that the former Sorcerer Supreme will still need to deal with the consequences of his action although the Darkhold no longer exists.

"That's the bill coming due," Waldron told Comicbook.com in reference to Baron Mordo's line in Doctor Strange 2. "As Wong says, 'You used the Darkhold to possess your own corpse.' Surely, there must be some fallout."

He continued by stating that the film paid tribute to director Sam Raimi's previous project.

"It was a little bit of a throwback to old Evil Dead, and that groaner of an ending, or it's just like, 'Oh my God, things turned out bad in the end.' So, yeah. We'll see what all that means for Stephen," Waldron said.

We've already seen how the Darkhold affected Wanda and it's terrifying to think that it will continue to influence Stephen Strange in the future. We don't know what will happen yet but it's best to be prepared when Doctor Strange returns in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is still screening in theaters worldwide.
